Safe Environment for Volunteers

Protection of our children is our most important goal. All volunteers 18 and older must be trained in Safe Environment. Details are shown below
Dear Volunteers

,

  1. All volunteers 18 years of age and older must have completed the Safe Environment Program.

To do this, you must complete all 3 of the following steps:

Take the Safe Environment seminar course:
  2. If you have never done this before, you must take the 3 hour course in person. This course is available both online and in-person. Visit Virtus.org to create an ID and sign up for a class. After completing the course, you must print out the certificate and either bring or mail it to the Parish Office.
  3. If you took the course more than 5 years go you may need to re-certify. Since you took the Virtus seminar already, you have Virtus account with a User ID and Password. You need this information to complete you update online.  Please e-mail Deacon John Tuccio at deacon.tuccio@stjuderc.org if you have forgotten your Password and/or User ID. You can also re-certify by taking the update in person. Please look on Virtus.org for classes.
  4. Complete a background check. This can be done on-line or if you are taking an in person course, you will sign a hardcopy then.
  5. Sign the Executive Summary for Lay Volunteers and either bring or mail it to the Parish Office. A blank Executive Summary is available; on-line and can be printed, in the back of the Safe Environments 2020 Handbook (available here), or you can get a copy in the Parish Office/Religious Education Office.
This handbook contains the reporting requirements and the reporting contact information. You agree to report any instance of violation of the Safe Environment Requirements in the Diocese
